Traffic fines in Dubai

The most common violations and where to check current fine amounts.
Traffic fines in the UAE are set by federal traffic law and may change. To avoid outdated amounts on our website, we do not list specific fines — please check them on the official websites:

— u.ae — the official UAE government portal (traffic rules and fines section);
— Dubai Police — checking and paying fines;
— RTA — Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.

Most common violations

— using a mobile phone or other distractions while driving;
— running a red light — besides a fine, the car may be impounded;
— speeding — the higher the excess, the higher the fine; for serious speeding the car may be impounded;
— overtaking on the hard shoulder;
— dangerous driving, including driving that damages property;
— driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs — the penalty is decided by the court;
— driving without a number plate;
— entering restricted areas;
— driving into oncoming traffic;
— parking in a no-parking area.

For many violations, black points are added and the car may be impounded in addition to the fine.

Fines during the rental

Fines and toll road charges (Salik) incurred during the rental period are paid by the renter: these amounts and administrative costs are deducted from the deposit. The deposit is refunded 30 days after the car is returned. See the rental terms for details.
